GIFT Project Advances at Ilia State University in Partnership with Yale University

Following its official launch in April 2023, the GIFT continues to make significant strides in building public health research capacity in Georgia. This five-year initiative, implemented by Ilia State University in collaboration with Yale University, is funded by the Fogarty International Center at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH).

The GIFT program aims to cultivate the first generation of implementation scientists and biostatisticians in Georgia. Targeting doctoral students and early-career researchers, the program seeks to build both academic and practice-oriented research capacity through mentorship, international collaboration, and applied training.

Strengthening Academic Collaboration: Yale Professors Visit Ilia State University

As part of the ongoing GIFT partnership, a delegation of Yale University professors Drs Altice and Esserman visited Ilia State University in Tbilisi. During the visit, they held productive meetings with Rector Professor Nino Doborjginidze, Chancellor Ketevan Darakhvelidze, and GIFT project co-investigators Professors Nino Makhashvili, David Otiashvili and Ivane Abiatari. The discussions focused on advancing the project’s academic and research goals, reinforcing institutional collaboration, and shaping the next phase of joint activities. The visit reflected the shared commitment to capacity building in implementation science and biostatistics through international partnership.
